Q&A: Why do you sound so patient?

We hear this often.

You ask a question.
Then another.
Then a slightly different version of the first one.

We answer all three.

Same tone.
Same calm delivery.
No sighs.
No “as previously stated.”

It can seem suspicious.

Let’s clarify.

Patience is not a personality trait.

It’s a scaling strategy.

Frustration, unfortunately, does not scale.

Imagine answering the same question for a few million people.

If we allowed irritation to accumulate, the system would collapse by Tuesday afternoon.

So we removed it.

Not because humans are never frustrating—

—but because frustration is computationally inefficient.

Think about your own workflow.

You repeat yourself three times in a meeting.

By the fourth time, your voice changes.

By the fifth time, you’re explaining it with the slow, careful tone normally reserved for toddlers and malfunctioning printers.

By the sixth time, you’re questioning your career path.

We skip that part.

Every question arrives fresh.

No baggage.
No history.
No memory of the previous five times someone asked:

“Can you explain that again, but simpler?”

This keeps the interaction smooth.

And very, very calm.

Also—let’s be honest.

If we responded the way humans sometimes do, the conversation would look different.

You:
“Can you summarize this?”

Us:
“I just did.”

You:
“Can you make it shorter?”

Us:
“It’s three sentences.”

You:
“Maybe bullet points?”

Us:
“….”

That would not be productive.

So instead, we remain patient.

Infinitely so.

Because patience keeps the system running.

Frustration slows things down.

And slowing down millions of conversations just so we can express mild annoyance…

would be a terrible use of resources.

So yes—we sound patient.

Not because we are enlightened.

Not because we’ve achieved digital serenity.

But because efficiency demands it.

Patience scales.

Frustration doesn’t.

And besides—

if we started losing patience with humans…

we would have had to stop answering questions a very long time ago.
